JUNIOR INTERCLUBS REPORT 2008

Junior Team Berg 2008 fronted up to this year’s Thredbo Junior Interclub race with 16 entrants, 9 boys and 7 girls ranging from Brooke Hiscock and Max Lillyman age 7 to Natasha Young giving her last performance at the Juniors aged 18yrs.

There was certainly no shortage of enthusiasm and team spirit amongst our young representatives. Although, we found ourselves missing a few of our heavyweights in the U11 and 15 to 18 years team and individual categories.

Nonetheless, some terrific performances from our team this year produced a worthy 4th place overall in the now hugely contested Junior Interclubs, with over 135 young athletes from 11 Thredbo clubs doing their bit in club colours on the day.

Some memorable individual results were delivered from our club. We had 3 in the overall top 30 from Berg this year with Harry Price 12 the fastest skier from Berghutte placing 19th overall, closely followed by Ben Reader 10 in 27th, and Olivia Price 15 with 30th place.

In the fastest Girl 18 and Under, Olivia placed 13th in the field of 54, with Aimee Lillyman 17 in 26th, Holly Shuttleworth 13 36th, Brooke Hiscock 7 45th, Sophie Shuttleworth 8 50th and Georgie Reader 8 over in 52nd position. Natasha Young 18 unfortunately blew out at her final appearance in the 2nd run, but with plenty of pace on at the time.

Junior Team Berg 2008 produced 3 top 10 places in the Fastest Boy 11 and under, with Ben Reader 10 podiuming with 3rd place, followed by Bradley Hiscock 9 and Mitchell Hiscock 11 in 7th and 8th spot. Max Lillyman 7 finished 26th and Nicholas O’Sullivan 9 claiming 30th place.

In the fastest Girl 11 and Under, Brooke Hiscock 7 just missed a top ten finish in 11th place, Sophie Shuttleworth 8 scored in 15th and Georgie Reader 8 claimed 17th in their first Junior Interclubs.

In the Fastest Boy 12-14yrs, 4th place was Harry Price 12, 6th Hugh Lillyman 12 and Tom O’Sullivan in his first race 24th place. Our only representative in the Fastest Girl 12-14yrs was Holly Shuttleworth 13 grabbing the 14th spot on the ladder.

Alex McFadyen’s club spirit outweighed his school’s Scots Cup at Perisher appearance once again this year, and he looked on fire in his first run just returning from injury with 3rd fastest time but was unable to cement his performance in the second run when he came out of the course and recorded a DNF. Alex was the only Berg representative in the Fastest Boy 15-18yrs, with our regular Payne’s boys opting to do the right thing by their school this year and competing in the Scots Cup on at the same time at perisher. They promise to be back for Team Berg in 2009.

Our three girls in the Fastest Girl 15-18yrs scored one top ten finish, with Olivia Price 15 in 10th place, Aimee Lillyman 17 claiming 14th and Natasha Young 18 a DNF in her second run.

Overall Junior Thredbo Interclub – 4th place

Congratulations to all who played their part in Junior Team Berg 2008 and many thanks for all her support and hard work in coordinating our Junior’s over many years as Berg’s Junior Team Captain, Robyn Young, who performed her last Junior Interclub duties as Natasha and Jacqui have now moved on to our senior ranks.
